Political Cartoons

Political Cartoons are powerful tools if used correctly. I have found some modern-day political cartoons that deal with issues going on in our society. Analyze ONE of these cartoons. First, tell me what the cartoon is about. Then tell me what aspects the political cartoon contains AND how it contains them. To aid you, the aspects of a political cartoon are the following: Satire, Caricature, Symbolism, Metaphor, Irony, Sarcasm, and Stereotype. Remember, these political cartoons contain AT LEAST three of these aspects.

  1. the political cartoon with obmama carring the world. they are trying to say that obama said all of these things that he was going to do them and he is not doin them . they are using sarcasm because he said he is going to make the world a better place and they are saying he has the world on his shoulders and all these things he is suppostto do is not happening

  4. A guy which I think is the president and a guy on top of the world. I think this has satire because the guy on the world is wanting something and the guy on the bottom has the whole worlds weight is on him.
there is also some caricature when he only one person and trying to save the world. and some irony in this is when the guy on the bottom is trying to run his country and the guy is asking to save the world

  5. In the second political cartoon they are showing how much pressure that Barack Obama has. That the whole world depends on him and the public thinks that since he is president that he will fix all the economy problems, iraq, ect in a few weeks. There is Satire: The world is on top of him Caricuture:Obama's frown lines and his nose. And the other guy's nose is big.
Symbolism:The guy on top of the world represents the american public, and the globe on his back represents the world is relying on him.
Steryotype: The guy on the globe represents all the american people but not everybody in america thinks that it will take a few weeks or months to fix all the problems that are in america.

  6. The 2nd political cartoon looks to me like Obama holding up the world, because he is now president, and a person in the world wondering if Obama has saved us from everything going on in the world while Bush was president. That's what it looks like. The sattire is that Obama is holding up the world! The caricature is that the world is HUGE because it is such a big responsibility. The symbolism is the world - respresenting Obama taking care of it. The metaphor is that the world IS a huge deal and people actually are ON the world. Irony - Obama is struggling??? Stereotype - All presidents can handle the world(or USA...)

  7. the 2nd political cartoon is about obama and how he is going to change the world. it has metaphor because he is carrying the world on his shoulders because his speech is talking about unrealistic things that he will do for the US. I hope this is right!

I chose cartoon two. This cartoon is about Obama trying to save the world. This cartoon contains satire, symbolism, and sarcasm. Satire because they are making fun of people who are impatient and wont give him time to make a change. Symbolism because he is carring the globe on his back and the globe is a symbol for the world. Sarcasm because the guy on the globe says, " Have you saaved us yet?" and it's has only been a couple of weeks.

The second political cartoon is about goverment workers doing all the work so that the world will be back to normal because of the economy. This cartoon has satire because it is acctually humorous because the goverment worker is carrering the world and a pedestrian is yelling at him. Symbolizm I belive is the dark as the bad economy and the goverment is trying to pull it out of the darkness also the man under the world repersents the US goverment. Their is also sarcasm because the man on the world is yelling "hey it's been a few weeks have you saved us yet?" the man is being sarcastic because the economy is just getting worse.

  10. The Obama and the world one is Obama trying to do too much and he hasn’t done anything yet, but make promises.

  11. Ok some of the comments above really bothered me. This is what the political cartoon with obama is saying: Obama promised a lot of things, and he has so much pressure to do so, but all these impatient people think everything should be ok already even though he's only been president a month. He promised cahnge and there will be change, you can't say "Oh Obama promised all these things and he's not living up to it" when you haven't given him any time! Wait 4 years from now, then we'll see what happens.

Oh also, the thing that reeeallly aggravated me, was when someone said That Obama's promises were unrealistic and wouldn't happen and they hoped that was right. Ugh. Ok. Just because you don't like Obama doesn't mean you should hope he doesn't live up to his expectations! Wouldn't you rather be wrong about someone then right? I mean you'd seriously rather the whole economy be terrible another 4 years then have someone make America stable and a better place JUST to prove that you were right. Seriously...
