The World's Policemen

Washington gave the United States two warnings when he stepped down from being President: do not get involved in political parties and do not get involved in foregin wars. Clearly, we didnt listen. My question to you is as follows: The US is the world's policemen, is this the right thing to do or should we pull our troops back to the US and just worry about protecting ourselves and our borders? Make sure to include your reasoning.

  1. I think we should be both! We need to worry about ourselves and our problems but also care about and for other countries too. We shouldn't always help other countries because they need to be independent, but aiding them would make us "friends". In other words, we should help other countries become independent and then let them be.

  2. On the contrary being the worlds policemen makes us spread our resources and have war debt. Have you ever heard of another country other than the U.S. lending support in todays world.

  3. Being the worlds policemen is good and bad. It makes you socially more conected to the world. Making allies and enemies. Well it also lets you fight in another country instead of your own. like would you rather paintball in your house or someone elses. It also gives us like a buffering zone, like a person runs at you a 10 feet instead of 1 foot. You propably set a good example depending on your actions and other countrys may follow. It also spreads your resouces though. Also we won't have as much fear of attack and wait for it to happen. So I propably think it is a good thing that we are the worlds policemen.

  4. In some ways, I think we should be both, too. Our biggest priority should be our countries problems and needs. It's not as easy as it sounds to just "close the US borders" and protect ourselves. Lining up troops across the US border won't stop invaders from entering. But, we need not forget about other countries who need us. We should help them, but there has to be a limit to how much we involve ourselves and our troops.

  5. I believe we should do both, but we should mostly keep to ourselves, like protecting ourselves and dealing with our own problems. However, connecting with the rest of the different countries and governments is how this world works in my opinion. We should help other governments with their problems, and they should try and help with ours. If we were to ally with other governments, it's highly likely there would be no wars or fighting. But there's no guarantee to that. In my opinion, the U.S. should just try both of those ideas.

  6. Being the worlds policeman can be both a great thing but a horrible thing. I think if there was a choice we should be the policeman because we strengthen alliances with other countries. But a main problem is that we make ourselves a huge target for the other countries like North Korea. In today's day and age, keeping our nation strong is key so i guess both???

  7. I believe that we should be the policemen of the world. In a sense we are an example country to the rest of the world and sort of tie the world together. I also agree we can do both by sending some of our troops to foreign countries and keep some on U.S. soil. Fighting in foreign wars can give us allies but also give us enemies. If we choose who to support wisely we can be the smart policemen of the world.

  8. What my opinion is, is that i think we shouldn,t keep sending more troops to a foreign country and wars that are not including us. I mean it is nice and all that we are helping other countries but as George Washington advised we shouldnt get involved in other countrys wars. Also it is spending up precious money we could be using for other issues.

  9. Being the "world's policman" isn't a bad thing, but it isn't a good thing either. Of course it's nice that we are willing to help foreign countries out, but we have to remind ourselves that this isn't our fight! By assisting one country, we would become their friends, but on the other hand, we would become major enemies to the country we're fighting against. But, we all have to be realistic. We can't ALL protect the country. It just won't work. I think what we should do is only help countries when it involves us and can benefit us in some way. Meanwhile, we can also defend our oen countries. So, basically what I'm trying to say is: I think we should be both!!! -Y.R. period 6!! :D

  10. my opinion is we should be the worlds policeman because we are the worlds ambassadore, but like what mr balder said we are making our selve a big target. so this q is hard but ill say both

  11. The U.S. is a powerful country, and I think we abuse this power sometimes. Just because different countries have different opinions, government and what not doesn't give us the the right to drop atomic bombs on them. (You'd have tree hugging hippies after you too). Anyhow, I think our country obsesses over the issue, I mean, billions of dollars guzzled up in the last ten years. We should use our power maturely, not abuse it like a spoiled five year old. It's possible for us to be neutral, we just don't like being told what to do. But I don't think we can ignore this issue when it's right in front of our faces. We should have listened to the fathers of our country. Where would we be without them? (Speaking in British accents and driving on the other side of the street, that's where). Washington told us to be neutral for a reason. I think we should stop being over sensitive to our own wants and impulses, and listen.

  12. We should definitely be the worlds policemen. we are obviously in control as being the military power of the world, and it would be great to gain trust and friendship with other countries so they can help when we are in trouble too. im not saying that we should keep our troops over there, but its better than staying in our country and doing nothing. so, yes we should be the worlds policemen.

    Well Mr. Fabozzi .
I dont think it is right, we are all about freedom and religioun right?
Well we are hypocritical . We arent letting the other countries do what they want to do .
If we're about freedom, let them have their freedom of doing what they want to do .
What if what they're doing is all about religeoun? We're just screwing it up for them by controlling them .
We're like babysitters of the world, and i hate babysitting . So does all the other countries.
