Obama's Speech

For those of you that actually watched the speech, or for those of you that didn't but wanted to I have found a link to the text of the speech. What I want to know, is what you thought of it. Profound? Mundane? Long? Short? Boring? Go ahead and take another look at the speech, copy and paste a part of it into your comment and write one paragraph about what you thought about that portion. Be insightful, write intelligently, be a student of history!

  1. I was most impressed with some of the people in the crowd watching and listening to the speech. Some were crying tears of joy, understanding that the reality of living in America today means that anything is possible, even with all our faults, if we work hard.

  2. I was most impressed with the tears of joy that I witnessed in the crowd. There are so many people that didn't think they would ever live long enough to see somebody like President Obama become elected to the highest office in the land. It was a great day for all of us

  6. I thought the speech was impressive because its
probably hard to stand infront of millions of people and give a speech like that. But that he said that president Bush did a good job I have to disagree because he restarted the war and brought our economy down with bad decicions .Obama is hopfully going to help the economy and pull most troops back. In general his speech was good.

  7. Its was boring at times but it was a good speech overall i didnt see the whole thing just the first couple of parts . i think the best part is when he said "each nation and every man, woman, and child who seeks a future of peace and dignity, and that we are ready to lead once more." not only did he say woman he also said child :).

  8. Great speech. And its awsome to know that we have gotten away from all of that rascism stuff. And finally have our first African American president. Its great, and shows us color doesn't matter anyone can do anything if they really try. I think Obama will do a great job leading this country, and I'm glad to say he's our president.

  9. OBAMA SAID:
I stand here today humbled by the task before us, grateful for the trust you have bestowed, mindful of the sacrifices borne by our ancestors. I thank President Bush for his service to our nation, as well as the generosity and cooperation he has shown throughout this transition.

    I SAY:
I was impressed by this part of his speech, mostly because Barack Obama was basically thanking us and very greatful for us trusting in him to become president. He also thanks the lame duck(haha:D), President Bush, even though he knows he did not run as president as well as expected...but Obama still admires Bush and understands what has been going on throughout this transition(like he said). I think that this shows that Barack is a very kind person. JUST LIKE MR.FABOZZI!!!!! MR.FABOZZI IS AN AMAZING TEACHER! And I think it might be cool if Mr.Fabozzi becomes president! I bet Obama would admire him, too. :)

  10. I thought it was very respectful of Obama to say kind things about Bush, even though most people just criticize him. Also it was a short speech, but very well thought out. It was really inspiring, and makes you truly believe Obama is going to help this country while in term of office.

(I wanna know how many times he practiced in the mirror?)

  11. I thought that the speech was long and thought out. I like that he addressed the problems that are going on in the USA. I also like that he had a plan for fixing the crisis that we are in. He also gave us hope, in knowing that someday this might all be over. This is one of the parts of the speech that I liked: "That we are in the midst of crisis is now well understood. Our nation is at war, against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred. Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age. Homes have been lost; jobs shed; businesses shuttered. Our health care is too costly; our schools fail too many; and each day brings further evidence that the ways we use energy strengthen our adversaries and threaten our planet." In other paragraphs he talked about helping other countres also deal with their problems, because we are not the only ones going through a crisis.I also thought it was important that he talked about education, beacuse in the middle of this economy problem people sometimes forget that the kids that are in school now are going to be running the country someday, and if we forget about that, the past is going to repete itself. It makes me happy that MLK Jr didnt die for nothing that that Barack Obama being president is possible.

Ps. Sorry i posted it again, the 1st time I put it under anonoymous.

  12. For we know that our patchwork heritage is a strength, not a weakness. We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus — and non-believers. We are shaped by every language and culture, drawn from every end of this Earth; and because we have tasted the bitter swill of civil war and segregation, and emerged from that dark chapter stronger and more united, we cannot help but believe that the old hatreds shall someday pass; that the lines of tribe shall soon dissolve; that as the world grows smaller, our common humanity shall reveal itself; and that America must play its role in ushering in a new era of peace.

Barack Obama is saying in this portion is that despite what race you are or what your religion is we are all the same;we are all equal. And that everybody has to respect one another, like treat others the way you want to be treated.Obama is also talking about the civil war and segregation is in the past.

  13. Obama's speech I thought was wonderful. I think I liked it so much because Obama was the first person of Color to become president. The speech was powerful yet long. The speech made alot of people who viewed this event in Washington D.C cry because there was a time when if you were a person of color you were told that you could not become president, now they know that anything is possible. With the election of President Obama(yipee)we the people are making a step toward change.

I'm happy that Obama is president now because I think he is a great leader. At first I didn't like him that much but now I do. I liked how he said that we are on the midst of killing our planet with global warming and everything. No politician has really every said that (besides Algor) :P. Obama has already froze pay raises of Congress which I think is good because We are not really wasting anymore money. And what did I think of his speech? I thought it was well thought out not too too long, but not too too short. I hope Obama doesn't let America down and I hope he keeps his promises :D

  15. "For everywhere we look, there is work to be done. The state of the economy calls for action, bold and swift, and we will act — not only to create new jobs, but to lay a new foundation for growth. We will build the roads and bridges, the electric grids and digital lines that feed our commerce and bind us together. We will restore science to its rightful place, and wield technology's wonders to raise health care's quality and lower its cost. We will harness the sun and the winds and the soil to fuel our cars and run our factories. And we will transform our schools and colleges and universities to meet the demands of a new age. All this we can do. All this we will do."

Unfortunately i disagree with this statement Obama has made. Although he says that we can change America and how it runs, I don't think that could possibly happen. Changing America right now is unrealistic because of the condition of the local and Global economy. And making Health equipment, as Obama said, high quality and low costs is unimaginable. Right now United States is Bankrupt and doesn't have enough money to make Hospitals have the best technology its ever had. One reason it can't be that way is that America is going to spend so much money on raising the quality of health care, but then once they have done that they are going to make prices lower? That is unreal, how are we going to get money back from low prices and taking care of high quality Systems?
And how are we going to create new jobs when there are already Millions of people who lost their jobs because of the economy? Then those people can't return because there is no work for them. These are my new questions for Obama and I would like to see him do what he says is going to happen

  16. "Let it be told to the future world ... that in the depth of winter, when nothing but hope and virtue could survive...that the city and the country, alarmed at one common danger, came forth to meet (it)."

America, in the face of our common dangers, in this winter of our hardship, let us remember these timeless words. With hope and virtue, let us brave once more the icy currents, and endure what storms may come. Let it be said by our children's children that when we were tested we refused to let this journey end, that we did not turn back nor did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God's grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations.

I felt that by quoting George Washington's words, President Obama appropriately compared our nation's crisis with what George Washington faced those two centuries ago, and how we can come together to fix it. Only, this time our war is so much more...and this war is against ourselves; it is to fix our nation's problems...the economy, unemployment, taxes, etc. This indeed, is the winter of the war, but maybe with President Obama leading us, this can become spring once more with the sweet independence we will gain, alongside it.

  17. "Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this, America — they will be met.On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord. On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn out dogmas, that for far too long have strangled our politics."

I loved Obama's speech. And not only because I love obama, lol. It was positive, inspiring, and hopeful. One of my favorite parts of the speech is above. Basically President Obama is admitting that at this moment america's not at its highest point but since we're such a great country who has come so far that it will happen, and that unlike certain presidents in the past he is going to keep his promise and give everyone the change they've craved. He's going to bandage the slightly bruised america (: He moved so many people with his speech, including me, and i don't think he could've made it any better.

Hope thats the answer you were lookin' for (:

  18. I believe that the inauguration speech was really long, but I also thought that it was interesting. I trusted him to lead the united states to life liberty and happiness. he talks about alot of the problems in the US and he tells you how he will fix them. hopefully he can guide us to world peace and we shall live in happiness for as long as he runs.

  25. Forty-four Americans have now taken the presidential oath. The words have been spoken during rising tides of prosperity and the still waters of peace. Yet, every so often the oath is taken amidst gathering clouds and raging storms.

I thought the speech was great it was an awesome speach he should make a great president he baffeled me with the context of "Yet, every so often the oath is taken amidst gathering clouds and raging storms." as if someone had made it just so they could rule and ruin it for everyone.
