I dont really understand this picture because, i am not really sure what GM is, because i am not really aware of what is going on in america today haha :). Well i think GM is a car company? and they wanted a bailout from wallstreet? And this is saying that they GM people are pirates becasue they want money and they think the only way 2 do it is 2 steal and become pirates.I guess it has satire because the GM people are being represented by pirates, and pirates will practically do anything 2 get money. There is stereotype because it's assuming that all the people that worked for GM were pirates who were taking the easy way out, to get money. I think it's using irony, because people ussually think of people that work 4 big companies 2 be all classy and such, but instead they are becoming pirates...they total opposite of classy.
ReplyDeleteThe aspects i can find are caricature and possibly symbolism? I really don't understand this cartoon /: All i know is GM is General Motors as my mommy just informed me (: Can you expalin the meaning per favore? That'd make it easier for me to decipher it. Grazie!
ReplyDeleteThe three elements of this political cartoon, The Color GM Piracy, by Larry Wright are allegory, caricature, and metaphor. I see that allegory is not a choice you gave us so I would also say that satire is one of the elements in this political cartoon.

Sarcasm Building's werent that tall when pirates were roaming the earth
ReplyDeleteCaricature Usually, nose's dont cover half the face
Symbolism The flag represents pirates
I think that the pirates symbolize the Somali pirates which is both symbolism and stereotype, because they don't really look like that...and I don't think it's very nice to caterogize the GM people like that, even if it is funny--This contains satire because well, who doesn't look funny in pirate clothes!

This has satire b/c PIRACY (unauthorized reproduction) was what GM depended on from going bankrupt. Also, it has symbolism b/c piracy is symbolized by the pirates. It also is sarcastic b/c piracy is not the only way to save GM, they could discontinue some car brands. For example, the hummer, people are trying to save $$, hummers take too much gas, and nobody wants to pay extra $$ for gas. :D
